Catching a Cheese Pervert Takes on Big Dairy at the Toronto Fringe Festival Women-led Cheese Shop Productions reimagines the bizarre true story of the Swiss Cheese Pervert, as featured on the My Favorite Murder Netflix Podcast on Netflix. Catching a Cheese Pervert takes on the power of Canadian Dairy and the subtle and not-so-subtle ways misogyny permeates our homes, our work, and our cheese. Through absurdist humour, this female, indigenous, and queer-led team weaves a noir parody through the eyes of Priscilla Patton, Canada’s most prominent anti-vegan influencer over 40. No one is safe in this Canadian satire: dairy farmers, grocery store tycoons, influencers, and oat milk lovers all grace the stage. Each has a secret, but only one is guilty. Who will face consequences? All we know is, not the men. After an international premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last summer, the creators, Krista Rowe (Best Canadian Filmmaker award at the Toronto Women’s Film Festival) and Kayla Kurin (Best in Series: Hamilton Family Fringe), are delighted to be bringing the show to their hometown. The show stars award-winning actor Arleigh Curran (The Book of Will (Village Players), Noises Off (Milton Players)) and José Andrés Bordas (The Play That Goes Wrong (Oakville Centre)). Director Krista Rowe said that capturing the true elements of the story was one of her favourite parts of the creation process. “We took things directly from the archives: newspaper articles, dairy documents, and social media comments.” There are puppets. There is cheese. And the creators want to make one thing very clear: “We don’t suspect anyone in Canadian dairy is a cheese pervert!”
